Rocks are cool. When rocks have carvings from really old civilizations on them they are extra cool (even when they are in the desert where it is very hot). • We only had about 1 hour to spend at Petroglyph National Monument, but we used that time to hike a short ways on South Rinconada Canyon trail. We were able to see volcanic rock formations, incredibly preserved petroglyphs, lizards, and beautiful desert topography. This is a great detour for anyone passing through northern New Mexico. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center to speak with the incredibly knowledgeable park staff. Just outside of Amarillo, Texas on Historic Route 66 is the famous roadside attraction, Cadillac Ranch. • Commissioned by Stanley Marsh 3, this grouping of 10 Cadillacs was put in by San Fransisco based art group, Ant Farm in 1973. Today the cars are entirely covered in decades worth of spray paint added by visitors to this classic roadside attraction. On site there is an officially licensed Cadillac Ranch trailer selling souvenirs, snacks, and even spray paint. • One disappointing thing to note is the amount of trash left scattered all over the ground by visitors. Though this is private property, littering is still highly detrimental to the area. Visitors may think tossing their can or cap to the side is acceptable as part of the art, but with the flat land of Texas, wind easily carries this trash for miles, creating a disastrous environmental impact. The Amarillo Botanical Garden was a great detour on our way from Frisco, TX to Albuquerque, NM. • At this time of year, most of the outdoor plants were not yet blooming, but their indoor tropical habitat was an incredible step into paradise. From a fat toad to a waterfall and growing pineapples, the tropical exhibit had everything one could want. First morning in the trailer … outside of Carson’s parents’ property. • A truck stop in middle New Jersey is not the most glamorous sleeping spot, but it sure works. After pulling in after midnight to see every spot taken by truckers we realized an oversight in our plans - truckers have to sleep too! Luckily we snagged a spot after only doing one lap through the parking lot. Today is International Women’s Day! Women are incredible in versatility, resilience, and innumerable other aspects. With all the ways women support themselves and those around them, we want to celebrate women enjoying the simple pleasures in life. • When we travelled to Europe this past summer, we made a lot of detours like the ones pictured here. For Angela, one of the simple pleasures in life is really decadent cheese, especially paired with ethically sourced meats and fresh bread. So, while we were traveling, we specifically sought out the best places in the city for these treats (even though Carson is totally grossed out by cheese). Planning for our 4 month, cross-country road trip is well underway. We just put in for a Yosemite backcountry camping permit in for a 3 night hike across the Yosemite Valley high country of El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and North Dome. This has us wondering how the May snowpack at almost 8000’ will compare to the February snowpack in NH at only 4000’ . • Back in February of 2022 we managed a 12 mile day hike across 3 peaks in the NH White Mountains. The hike included post-holing through waist deep snow, freezing winds across the peak of Mount Jackson, and sliding our way down the mountain. It is by far one of the top 3 hiking experiences we have had together! • Our upcoming road trip is sure to being many memories that will last a lifetime. These cold winter days have us wishing for warm summer nights. • One of our favorite things to do when living in Boston was to stroll down the Charles River Esplanade. While the Esplanade’s beauty made for romantic evenings walks between just the two of us, the green space also provided a great opportunity to gather with friends for meaningful chats and rousing games of Frisbee.
